About Misganaw
Dr. Misganaw Alemu Zeleke is from a small village called Zenzen Be’Ata (Amharic: ዘንዘን በዓታ), West Gojjam, Amhara National Regional State, Ethiopia. His Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree is in Chemistry, graduated on 7th July 2010 from Dilla University, Ethiopia. After a year employment at Aksum University, Ethiopia, as an Assistant Lecturer, he joined Bahir Dar University, Ethiopia, and pursued his Master of Science (MSc) degree in Physical Chemistry on 3rd July 2013. In the year 2016, he got an opportunity to proceed his PhD study in Materials Science and Engineering from the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST), Taiwan under the supervision of Professor Dong-Hau Kuo.
As one of the members of Professor
Kuo’s research group, Dr. Misganaw was working hard to synthesis Photocatalyst
Nanomaterials at different synthesizing conditions and designs for the (photo-)reduction and -degradation of emerging
contaminants at the laboratory level. He mainly focused on the newly emerged
transition-metal oxy-sulfide heterostructure nanomaterials and nanocomposites
for photodegradation of toxic model heavy metals and organic compounds. Herein, he published 10 original articles as
a first and co-author in science-indexed journals with high impact factors and
completed his PhD degree on 3rd January 2019 [h-index: 8, citations:
234, until 2023].
Currently, he is working on design, synthesis, and development of nanomaterials-based devices for photodegradation of Contaminants of Emerging Concern (CECs) including antibiotics under the DOROTHY-MSCA-EU’S Horizon 2020 Programme and consistent supervision and mentorship of Professor Witold Kwapinski, University of Limerick, Ireland, and Professor Urška Lavrenčič Štangar, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia; and Professor Kibret Mequanint, University of Western Ontario, Canada, respectively.
